The power of an affirmation is that it focuses your mind. since your body reflects what your mind is focused on, it behooves us to fill and train the mind with wanted outcomes versus allowing it to resort to whatever thoughts enter which can be default thoughts or even thoughts from others.

Keeping our thoughts directed  keeps us ON PURPOSE. This allows increased productivity, less distraction and allows us to work on our priorities getting more accomplished.

An affirmation is defined as a positive declaration or assertion - Websters Dictionary
It is a confirmation and a PROnouncement

Affirmations can be done by
  • visualizing and writing
  • reading and repeating them out loud
  • communicating them to others

By repeating an affirmation we create what we think. what our mind focuses on becomes greater and is reflected in our physiology (body). Be aware of how you program your mind. what you think and believe is what you will see.

We may run negative programs through molding and sculpting over time and by our personal experiences. For some we have programmed ourselves this way. For others we have learned negative programs from family, peers, or society and may not be aware that we are creating negative self talk.

When i catch myself thinking of something that i don't want to, i try to change the thought to a different one. It is difficult at first, but it gets easier. It is amazing how often i catch myself and have to interrupt the pattern.

It is amazing to really see patients running their programming and the impact on them when they change it.

For example, do you catch yourself saying:
~ Don't forget your car keys
~ i am nervous
~ Don't spill the water
~ I am such an idiot

Repeat these out loud many times. Observe how you feel. What are you creating by your focus?

Positive affirmation and "self talk" would change these four sentences to become:
~ Remember the keys
~ I am calm
~ The glass is steady
~ I am capable

Repeat the above phrases out loud many times. Observe how you feel. How does this feel different?

How do you program yourself on a regular basis?
Are you aware of your predominant thoughts?
What are they?
~ write them down
Can you change them to a positive meaning and intent?

What are your affirmations?
Affirmations are powerful when stated in the present tense ~ with "I am"

Many of us use negative dis empowering self talk such as: I am too slow, I am not pretty enough, I am too old, I am not smart enough, i am not rich enough, i am not thin enough.

How can you catch yourself while having these thoughts an reset them to a positive? If you are having a challenge with removing negative thoughts - try writing them down on a sheet of paper and crumbling up the paper.

Give yourself permission to imagine those thoughts leaving with that act.
In the long run, what are the benefits of removing the negative program from your life?

Examples to consider while creating your own:

  • I am strong.
  • I love to laugh.
  • I am confident.
  • I am capable.
  • I control my health and happiness.
  • I am a success in all that I do.
  • I am in harmony with the universe.
  • I am at peace with myself.
  • I am worthy of love.
  • I am responsible for my life.

Use these affirmations as a springboard to create your intentions.
Say them when you need to reset and anchor yourself.

Affirmations can be laminated and put in the shower, on the horn in your car, on your desk, on your computer screen, in front of the toilet, in your journal... and I'm sure you can think of more.

I would love to hear from you and learn what affirmations have created change and healing in your life or what changes you have started to make in order to create a purposeful life.
